St. Anne’s church

Built in 1985, St. Anne’s church sits on a five-acre parcel in De Pere, Wis., across from De Pere High School and immediately adjacent to Martin Park.

The sanctuary, which seats about 200, is fully carpeted with padded oak pews, a pipe organ, grand piano, choir platform for 30 choristers and stained glass windows adorning all four sides.

The contemporary facility retains some of the history of previous St. Anne’s church buildings, especially in the small chapel outfitted with stained glass windows, altar and reredos (background paneling behind the crucifix) imported from our former Broadway Street location.

The remainder of the building includes a full office including two separate offices for the Rector and assistant, an education office and choir office. There is a choir room, nursery, four classrooms, sacristy, food pantry, narthex, library with fireplace, parish hall, fully equipped kitchen, a courtyard with a beautiful memorial garden
with columbarium. The lower level includes a large gathering area for youth, three
classrooms and full men’s and women’s bathrooms, both with showers.

The entire building is air conditioned and is believed to be the only Episcopal church
in the state with photovoltaic solar panels to reduce our electricity expense and model green energy use. St. Anne’s was one of the first congregations in the area to install an electronic message sign curbside, to advertise its services and programs.

The Courtyard

The St. Anne’s courtyard is home to the colorful plantings of the Betty Rose Meyer Thanksgiving Garden, the parish columbarium, and a statue of St. Anne and the Virgin Mary. With large windows on all sides, the Courtyard provides a pleasing view for parishioners and visitors (and for viewing the St. Anne's mallard family each spring). For information on the availability of spots in the courtyard columbarium, contact the Rector.

St. Mary’s Chapel

St. Mary’s Chapel is a place of worship suitable for morning prayer, Bible study groups and other small gatherings. The interior is notable for integrating relics and objects from inside the former St. Anne’s church building, which still stands on Broadway avenue in downtown De Pere. A large iconic oil painting, the reredos and crucifix at the front of the chapel, the altar and the stained glass windows at the rear of the chapel were all salvaged before the 1985 move to the present location.

Stained Glass Windows

St. Anne’s has stained glass windows on all four exposures — north, south, east and west — depicting scenes from the life of Christ and his ministry. The main focus is the large triptych behind the altar referencing the story of Abraham, the Paschal lamb and Christ’s life and Resurrection. At the rear of the sanctuary a second large triptych highlights Christ the King.

The lower area includes a large, informal gathering place (with comfy couches and chairs) typically used by the parish youth group.
